CME, at Your Convenience!

Your Missouri Academy of Family Physicians is excited to announce we have recently launched an online Learning Management System (LMS).  This system will allow members to earn affordable Enduring CME wherever they are, day or night.

Why Now?

MAFP’s Education Commission recognized a need to diversify how we deliver CME to our members.  The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified this opportunity to reach our members.  MAFP has historically held two conferences, the Show Me Family Medicine Conference in Summer and the Annual Fall Conference in Autumn.  Our members enjoy the relaxing atmosphere to catch up with friends and colleagues in addition to learning from each other.

“We recognize the CME marketplace has changed drastically.  Even before COVID-19 restricted in-person learning opportunities, most professions, including physicians, were able to earn continuing education credits from a variety of sources. We need to provide our members with more options.”

Kara Mayes, MD, Education Commission Co-chair

Our road to expanding our CME to a virtual environment was accelerated as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.  MAFP staff was forced to convert the Show Me Family Medicine Conference  to our first ever virtual conference.  Then, we were flexible and optimistic as we implemented social distancing and protective measures at one of the very few hybrid in-person conferences in the country, the Annual Fall Conference.  We integrated technology and personalization to levels we never thought we’d need.  Our technology proficiency grew tremendously including recording and storing presentations.  MAFP has been sharing great in-person CME information with our members for years.  However, we have not needed to capture it so the members who couldn’t attend our conferences could access the  great content.  Attendees that could join us also were not able to revisit the information besides the handouts they may have received. So, we hit the “record” button and started building a library of information for our members.  This library will continue to grow as we continue to capture live and virtual CME sessions.

How Can I Access it?

This library is housed in our LMS, which can be accessed on the MAFP website at https://www.mo-afp.org/cme-events/lms/.  Members will need a login and password to access the LMS. You should have received an e-mail from MAFP in early January 2021 with this information.  If you did not receive it, but are interested in accessing this valuable resource, please e-mail us at marketing@mo-afp.org.

Free CME

We are offering 3 hours of free CME to our members through Dr. Jeff Stone’s Implicit Bias Training.  The screenshot above highlights this opportunity for you.  Dr. Stone is a renowned expert on Implicit Bias in Healthcare and we were able to secure this fantastic training thanks to a grant from AAFP.  We encourage all of our members to view his session which was previously presented live at the 2020 Annual Fall Conference.

We are looking to expand this resource with important and timely sessions that you and your colleagues deem relevant to your practice and patient care.  If you are interested in sharing your expertise, let us know and we will work with you to prepare the required information for approval by the Education Commission and then recording of the session.

We are excited for the future of the LMS and look forward to developing a comprehensive library of topics this year.  Our goal is for this to be a useful means to attain your CME and add value to your membership.  We encourage all members to spend time on our LMS and share any feedback with us at marketing@mo-afp.org.
