The Missouri Academy of Family Physicians offers an array of benefits and services to our members. These benefits are in response to the needs of the family physicians practicing in a variety of health care settings. The Missouri AFP makes it convenient for our members to access relevant information and focused resources right where they live and work.
About MAFP and AAFP Membership
AAFP membership is unified, which means that members are required to belong to the national AAFP and to the MAFP. Local or component chapter dues are optional.
The Missouri Academy provides a variety of benefits to members including continuing medical education (CME), networking, and mentoring opportunities. Many members who are involved in leadership positions advance to hold national leadership positions by serving on an AAFP commission, task force, or the national Board. The Missouri Academy also helps to advance the specialty of family medicine by advocating to state legislators and governmental agencies.
CME & Events
To keep members abreast of changes in healthcare, the Missouri Academy provides several opportunities to earn CME on important and timely medical issues. Evidence-Based CME is offered to maximize the program quality and credits earned. Learn more.

The Missouri Academy offers a Knowledge Self Assessment (KSA) Working Group.
The Missouri Academy also sponsors members to attend the National Conference of Constituency Leaders (NCCL) and the Annual Chapter Leadership Forum (ACLF). These two conferences are opportunities for leadership development among the Missouri Academy members and upcoming board officers.
The Missouri Academy of Family Physicians has a variety of digital and print communications designed to keep our members apprised of academy activities, up-to-date on healthcare related information, CME, and other educational opportunities. Learn more.
The Missouri Academy’s legislative consultant represents the Academy on issues of interest to members. The Missouri Academy is the voice of family physicians and their patients on key issues including: scope of practice, Medicaid expansion, Tort Reform, and other areas of concern. Students and Residents
The Missouri Academy was recognized at the AAFP’s Annual Leadership Forum in April 2014 as being one of 39 states that have 100% retention of family medicine residents as members of AAFP and the Missouri Academy for the third year in a row. The Academy staff is dedicated to helping family medicine residents and students become involved in their specialty organization. Learn more.
