Founded in 1947, MAFP is the only state-level medical society devoted
solely to primary care and a state chapter of the American Academy of
Family Physicians, one of the largest medical societies in the country.
The MAFP represents over 1500 physicians and medical students across
Missouri.
Nearly one in four office visits are made to family physicians. That
is 207 million visits annually - nearly 62 million more than the next
specialty! Family physicians provide the majority of care for America's
underserved and rural populations. Through this site, we hope to provide
useful information and resources regarding primary care in Missouri.
Each November, MAFP hosts its Annual Fall Conference.
This year's event, held November 13-15, was very successful, as
190 attendees came together for a weekend of CME and networking.
Some of the topics covered: Osteoporosis and Vitamin D, Type 2 Diabetes,
Immunization Updates, Pregnancy Myths and Facts, Migraine Treatment
and Management, Fibromyalgia, Bipolar Disorder, Osteoarthritis,
Tobacco Dependence, a Missouri Board of Healing Arts Overview, as
well as a review of Practice-Changing Literature.
This was the first conference at which the MAFP offered a Self Assessment
Module (SAM) Study Group, which covered the Care of the Vulnerable
Elderly. 31 attendees participated in this session, which
allowed physicians who have entered the ABFM Maintenance of Certification
cycle to complete the knowledge assessment section for the MC-FP
SAM requirement (Part II). Facilitated by expert faculty,
this group completed the 60 core competency questions by assessing,
reviewing, and answering them as a group. This session was
well received, and the MAFP Education Commission plans to offer
these group studies as part of future MAFP meeting agendas.
